Different strokes for different folks

(Comic by Grace Buchele Mineta)

I’ve never really been “into” history. I can see the beauty in old buildings, old books and old traditions … but those aren’t the kinds of things that get my blood pumping. I’m more into hiking, traveling and doing things in the moment. I sometimes wonder if I’m missing out, though. A friend visited me in Tokyo recently—she couldn’t believe I hadn’t been to a kabuki performance, taken a calligraphy lesson or learned any of the Japanese martial arts (like aikido, kendo or kyūdō). Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
