To celebrate one of the hottest interior designers worldwide, Masamichi Katayama, Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery is holding an exhibition, Life is hard… Let’s go shopping. The encyclopedia of Masamichi Katayama will showcase his strength which lies in the ability to conceptualize distinctive environments. These environments enhance the vision, touching the subconscious of the consumer and occupant. Katayama’s many projects include Uniqlo’s global flagship stores (New York, Paris, London, Ginza and other locations), INTERSECT BY LEXUS (Aoyama, Dubai and soon NYC), UNITED ARROWS (Roppongi), and PIERRE HERMÉ PARIS Aoyama.

With a reputation as a collector, a visit to his studio, Wonderwall, reveals an office crammed with books, CDs, antiques picked up on his travels, furniture and contemporary art. Coinciding with the 25th year of Masamichi Katayama’s design career, this exhibition will also showcase this collection.
