Starting from April 14 till September 3rd, the JP Tower Museum Intermediatheque is opening a special exhibition “Geodaisia- Modern Cartography from Tadataka Ino to Remote Sensing.”

Ino Tadataka was a Japanese surveyor and cartographer. He is known for creating the first map of Japan using modern surveying techniques. The Map of Great Japan’s Coastal Areas was composed in eight volumes, unfortunately, during the great Kanto earthquake in 1923, the volume of Kanto region was lost. However, because of the rapid development of digital image processing, the first complete digital version of the map was created.

Thanks to the invention of digital image processing, which have made possible for us to experience the great work of Ino Tadataka.
