Alfons Mucha

Alfons Mucha is considered to be one of the leading art nouveau artist in the industry of art. He was born in Moravia which was part of Austro- Hungarian Empire. After staying in Vienna and Munich, he moved to Paris and  started learning painting. he gained attention and audience because of his beautiful artwork of female figures and images of flowers. In addition, he also created artworks about his homeland Czech and his Slav identity. Mucha’s famous artwork, The Slave Epic, is a cycle of 20 large canvases about the mythology and history of Czechs and Slavic people. He considered this art pieces as his life’s masterwork.

However, because of  Mucha’s Slav nationalism and Jewish roots he became the primary target of the Gestapo during the Nazi occupation. He became ill with pneumonia and have died in Prague on 14 July 1939, due to long infection.
