The red-light district of Shinbashi developed at the beginning of Meiji era. Aiming to make the Azuma Odori of the geisha the leading art, in 1925 the Shinbashi Enbujo Theater was established as the place for this grand occasion. Ninety-four years have already passed since that moment. This year, the Azuma Odori will be performed for the 95th time.
Inside the theatre, the Shinbashi geisha will play the melody of shamisen and will perform their sophisticated dance. During the intermission you will taste cuisine and high-grade sake from Shinbashi ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant) and boiling tea served by the geisha. For the first time in the new era Reiwa, from May 23rd to 26th, the Shinbashi Enbujo Theater will be transformed into a big ryotei.
