Founded by Yuji Sakatani, former manager of Japanese math rock band tricot, KOKOO Records presents a live stream performance on October 3 to showcase three up-and-coming Japanese bands: kiwi, STRAM amd Ululu. Sakatani, who manages the popular rock trio Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs, started EDOMAE to highlight the bands on a global platform.
kiwi: Tokyo-based four-piece indie rock band kiwi are influenced by the 90’s shoegazer bands like RIDE. The band made a huge shift in their sound from noisy roaring guitars to catchy dreamy guitar sound like Brooklyn-native band DIIV from the New York independent label CAPTURED TRACKS.
STRAM: Formed in 2016, with the sprit of punk and goth, STRAM play stoner, heavy dark riffs sound like the 70’s hard rock. 2018 saw their first release of a digital single “STRAM” and the band has been actively performing at shows ever since. With their latest Single “VALENTINE SPECTER,” they hosted a release party TIDE, in a collaboration with another Japanese band Barbican Estate. STRAM’s first album All Happy was released this June.
Ululu: Three-piece indie rock band Ululu formed in 2015. The combination of garage rock and the reminiscent sound of Japanese rock-esque nostalgic pop melody stands out among other young guns.
