It’s that time of year for Katsushika City’s Iris Festival. The stunning event is held at two locations: Horikiri Shobuen Iris Garden (considered one of Tokyo’s most notable sights since the Edo period) and the charming Mizumoto Park. The former holds around 6,000 iris plants of 200 varieties, whilst Mizumoto Park offers views of waterside nature with about 14,000 iris flowers of 80 different varieties. So it is safe to say that this is the time and place to see the iris flower in all its full bloom and glory. Enjoy the live music and performance, along with many other attractions whilst admiring all that purple.
Early June–Mid June, 8am–6pm. Free Admission. Horikiri Shobuen Iris Garden or Mizumoto Park. Horikiri Shobuen Station or Kanamachi Station. www.city.katsushika.lg.jp
