Kitawaki Noboru: To See the Universe in a Seed
Feb 11 - Oct 25Prices Vary
The Museum of Modern Art Tokyo explores the experimental works of avant-garde painter Kitawaki Noboru, 1901-1951, focusing on his involvement in the Surrealist movement. Kitawaki, active in Kyoto in the ’30s and ’40s, was greatly influenced not only by Surrealism and philosophy, but also mathematics, the natural science of Goethe, and ancient Chinese religion. The exhibition investigates the artist’s motivations and posits that Kitawaki aspired to unify heaven and earth into a single seed.
