The Montreux Jazz Festival, originally a Swiss affair, comes to Tokyo for the fourth time to rally musicians regardless of race, nationality, age or genre, setting up some unprecedented collaborations. BADBADNOTGOOD is a collective that combines jazz, R&B, hip hop and more; the Five Corners Quintet is an acoustic jazz group hailing from Finland. Fuji Rock veterans Mononkul combine J-pop, electronica and some jazzy delivery. This year, Montreux’s main visual artist is painter and designer Novol, whose murals and live painting performances evoke improvisation in jazz. The venue opens at 3:30pm on Monday, October 14. Reserved seats are ¥12,000.
