Nippon Connection Film Festival

Jun 01, 2021 at 12:00am ~ Jun 06, 2021 at 11:59pm

Nippon Connection returns with a selection of over 100 Japanese short and feature-length films. The link between modernity, tradition and family closely knits into each film and becomes this year’s underlying theme. From Junta Yamaguchi’s directorial debut Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes with its time-travel charm to the tragicomedy of Hideyuki Hirayama’s Family Of Strangers, the festival is packed with various programs that brings visitors a step closer to the Japanese culture.

Workshops, lectures, performances and concerts will be held via Zoom and live stream. At the Nippon Online Market, various vendors will present handicrafts, Japanese delicacies, and other selected Japan-related products. Watch underground director Jörg Buttgereit and film scholar Marcus Stiglegger comments on Japanese trash cinema from their couch at home.

The complete program is expected to be available on the festival homepage Nippon Connection from mid-May 2021. The event is expected to take place online across six days, but will be available for direct viewing at selected venues in Frankfurt.
