-Toshiki Okada (from the performance program “The Body Searching for Tomorrow”)

Toshiki Okada is a playwright and novelist who has continued to renew the traditional relationship between words and the body and present the issues of contemporary society from a critical perspective.

In March 2021, “I Am a Battlefield of Several Narratives” was presented as a work-in-progress in the project “Saitama Dance Laboratory Vol. 3: The Body Searching for Tomorrow.”  In the first part of the work, Okada was in charge of text and direction; dancer/choreographer Ema Yuasa incorporated the text and choreography into her body to speak and dance. This fall, the second and third parts, newly written by Okada and will be performed in their entirety. In addition, Shingo Ota, who has a unique presence as an actor in Okada’s works, will join the stage. A new form of “dance” triggered by words.
