For this solo show, British artist Nick West reimagines what a book is by making it from materials other than paper and glue. Using readily available, mass-produced objects like matches, dice, and records (among others), the artist sources objects from ¥100 stores and then assembles them as artworks. ‘Six Stories’ is the first time that this body of work is displayed collectively.
Accompanying the objects on view are several planned events:
Friday 3rd – Open from 1pm to 7pm, with a Book Club event from 5pm. An introduction to Speculative Fiction for readers by readers.
Saturday 4th – Open from 1pm to 7pm, with the Opening Reception from 5pm. Meet the artist, or simply visit the exhibition when there are other artists at the gallery. Please note that Launch Pad Gallery has a bring your own bottle policy.
Friday 10th – Open from 1pm to 7pm, with an Artist Talk from 5pm. An informal talk where the artist introduces the work on display, how he arrived at these objects, and how he sees this body of work developing in the future.
Saturday 11th – Open from 1pm to 7pm, with the Performance from 5pm. Work #34 is a book made from matches. For this performance, the artist will set this work alight.
Sunday 12th – Open from 1pm to 7pm
Monday 13th – Open from 1pm to 7pm
