A night full of centuries-old revered traditions — the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture) and Rakugo Geijutsu Kyokai are collaborating on an evening that will bring together classical music and rakugo.
The night begins with performances of the Swing and Dixieland Jazz Concert, followed by collaborative performances between rakugo and music, as well as daikagura (traditional juggling) and music. Rakugo is traditionally played with only the audience’s imagination aiding the performer in imagery, but tonight music will be complementing Takemaru Katsura as he tells his stories. This is the first time Tokyo Bunka Kaikan have incorporated illustrations and English subtitles into their performances, making this a more accessible and engaging event than ever before.
It’s bound to be a beautiful evening rich with history, culture, art and laughter.
