Aug 4 at 9:00 am - Nov 30 at 11:00 pm
TRUNK (HOTEL) is a boutique hotel draped in lush flora, located in Jinguumae, Shibuya-ku. Opened in May 2017, the hotel strives to create a space that welcomes everyone with its guest rooms, restaurants, shops and lounges.
From August 4 until late November, life-sized animal art installations called “pieces” by Seiya Kaji are featured at TRUNK (LOUNGE), within the hotel.

Materials such as wood, cork and discarded materials from the hotel were used to create these artworks, transformed into beautiful creatures. These creatures are interconnected, forming a team named Earth. Yet have we drawn boundaries between the “human world” and the “non-human world”? The artist resonates with these questions.
These artworks result in captivating pieces that welcome all the guests with their warming presence.
The word “TRUNK” holds multiple meanings, one of the main ones is the trunk of an elephant. There’s a theory that the elephant’s trunk evolved to efficiently use energy. Similarly, the hotel is in a constant state of evolution, striving to innovate the hospitality industry in Japan.
