MORGAN SALON #17 –
British keyboardist Morgan Fisher (ex-Mott the Hoople, Queen, Yoko Ono, etc.) is delighted to welcome to Morgan Salon, two contemporary photographers, MI-YEON and UMA KINOSHITA. Morgan will improvise music to slide shows by these two remarkable artists, who will talk about their works and respond to any questions the audience may have (interpreter will attend).
Mi-Yeon’s work is deeply contemplative, as she quietly observes the way we interact with nature, with each other, with life. Sometimes monochrome, sometimes brightly coloured, often with a blurry existential haze, her works have a textured, painterly quality, evidenced in the several books she has published. Her work may be viewed here: http://mi-yeon.jp/en/works/
Uma Kinoshita is an award-winning self-taught photographer. Starting out by photographing nude women, to express their emotional relationship with their bodies, in recent years she has been poignantly photographing the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Her portfolios, “Lost in Fukushima” and “Prayer in Stricken Land” are now in the Fukushima Museum collection. They contrast the impressively stark post-tsunami landscapes with the vitality of the local citizens holding a religious festival. Her work may be viewed here: www.umakinoshita.com
