J.K. Rowling’s new corporate enterprise features $180 million worth of dazzling digital beasties. If that’s what you go to the movies for, you’ll get your money’s worth. But there’s such a thing as being Pottered out, and there’s little new here. I was underwhelmed as I waded through the underwritten storytelling waiting for something to care about. It may have been better had it not wasted so much time on exposition and setting up a new and profitable franchise. Perhaps now that the groundwork is laid, the sequels will be a little less plodding. Jeez, I hope so, because there are four on the way. (133 min)
