In 1978 a May – December romance blossomed between Peter Turner (a spot-on Jamie Bell), a young British actor, and the legendary and much older Hollywood legend and tabloid favorite Gloria Grahame (Oscar for 1953’s The Bad and the Beautiful). The two stayed together, mostly, until her death in 1980, by which time Peter had essentially become her caregiver. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin, Wicker Park) has crafted an excellent weepie from the story, marred slightly by frequent unannounced flashbacks. But it’s worth a little artiness to watch Annette Bening inhabit this character. Top of her game. (124 min)
