A broke, temporarily wheelchair-bound young woman is forced to move into her good-ol’-boy father’s place in creepy-swampy Louisiana and deal with a houseful of Southern Gothic horror clichés. I mean, a bathtub scene? Seriously? Some southern-fried voodoo. Her dead mom doing tarot readings on VHS and warning of a “presence” in the house. Yawn.

Sarah Snook, who was so good in Predestination, does her best to make this generic material work, but all she succeeds in doing is making the wait for the phenomenally unsurprising final twist a little easier. Directed by Saw series veteran Kevin Greutert. (90 min)
