Bad guys snatch a love interest (Jessica Alba, sleepwalking through the role) to force legendary but retired hit man Jason Statham back into the game. Lotta shootin’, stabbin’, killin’, fightin’ and tough-guy talk. Things liven up briefly when a slumming Tommy Lee Jones shows up as a third-act villain, but not enough to warrant a recommendation. This is of course another generic retread of the same movie Statham has been making, with steadily diminishing returns, since The Transporter. His action fans will be satisfied—just—but I’d like at least once to see this charismatic actor aim a little higher. Japanese title: Mechanic: World Mission. (98 min)
