Space waste

In this expensive-looking, spectacularly inept space opera, a malfunction on a huge transport carrying thousands of sleeping colonists on a 120-year voyage to a distant planet causes two people to wake up – 90 years early. There’s a romance (duh), a complication, and an entirely superfluous action emergency thrown in just to keep you awake. Mainly it succeeds in making the genial Chris Pratt come off like a sexist creep. Jennifer Lawrence, while given little actual acting to do, seems to be thinking about firing her agent. This one has studio suit group-think and focus groups written all over it. (116 min)
