Setsubun at Senso-ji
Feb 03, 2025 at 10:00am ~ Feb 03, 2025 at 2:00pm
There is nothing that brings my partner more joy than the annual opportunity to lob peanuts freely at me in our apartment. But if you’d like more of a group activity, I recommend you celebrate Setsubun at Senso-ji. This ritual was popular during the Edo period and, while other temples celebrate this day too, Senso-ji’s festival atmosphere is hard to beat. Gather with the locals to throw beans in a ritual that drives away demons and invites good fortune for the coming year. Join the echoing chant, Oni wa soto, fuku wa uchi (demons out, luck in) so that you, too, can be demon-free and purified.
