Impermanence – An Exhibition Dedicated to My Mother

A personal message from the artist, Sanae Takahata:

I am pleased to announce an exhibition dedicated to my beloved mother, who passed away this February at the age of ninety. It was my mother who first introduced me to the world of art and only my brave mother who fully supported my reckless plan to go to Paris to pursue a career in art at the age of 18, despite my father’s strong opposition. This exhibition is a memorial filled with gratitude for her.

The venue for the exhibition, Rinkokaku, is a place filled with fond memories as I visited it frequently with my elderly parents. It was a haven for me to physically and mentally refresh myself while caring for my parents through their declining health and end-of-life care. My mother always wished for me to hold an exhibition there. In the main building of Rinkokaku, I will create a paradise-like atmosphere with 30 vividly colored works. I hope that present-day mothers and children, caregivers, and people of all generations will come to Rinkokaku for this memorial exhibition.
