Mao Ishikawa: “What can I do?”

Oct 13, 2023 at 11:00am ~ Dec 24, 2023 at 7:00pm

Main works from the Okinawa-based photographer Mao Ishikawa who continues to produce energetically will be exhibited, as well as new works from 2014’s “Great Ryukyu Photo Emaki”. We will hold a solo exhibition that approaches the real image of Mao Ishikawa. Ishikawa’s work was first introduced outside of Okinawa in the 2004 Yokohama Museum of Art group exhibition “Non-Sect: Radical Contemporary Photography III”.

This exhibition will be held as the artist’s first solo exhibition in Tokyo. Although Ishikawa’s photographs are in public collections both in Japan and abroad, there have not been many opportunities to introduce his published works. This exhibition provides an overview of Ishikawa’s career, which continues to shoot at the forefront of geopolitics.
