The Minato Ward Traditional Japanese Music Society brings together shakuhachi players from the Fuke Meian, Kinko-ryu, and Tozan-ryu schools, showcasing an extraordinary range of styles and traditions. From single-section flutes to rare three shaku five sun instruments (jinashi and finely tuned modern shakuhachi alike), the concert explores music spanning ancient komusō repertoire to contemporary Japanese and Western compositions. With each piece highlighting a different instrument and technique, even a short listen offers a rich introduction to the shakuhachi’s remarkable depth and diversity.
