Kaylie Kaitschuck: SNAKES AND LADDERS

Feb 09, 2022 at 1:00pm ~ Mar 20, 2022 at 7:00pm

Hiromart Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Kaylie Kaitschuck’s debut exhibition in Asia.

Kaylie Kaitsuchuck is a Detroit-based fiber artist who recently received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Arts in 2021.

Using machine embroidery, she produces colorful and playful scenes and landscapes which are often referenced from child-like imagery and utopian/dystopian dreams. Kaylie’s spirited embroideries will attract viewers with excitement. The show features works made for this exhibition titled SNAKES & LADDERS.

Artist Statement:

My work contains a lot of symbolism. These embroideries are often extremely playful but packed full of metaphors and storytelling. Snakes and ladders is a game that involves luck and chance. To roll and land on a ladder, pushes you forward. To roll and land on a snake, pulls you backward. I use these symbols often in my work. Both represent the uncertainty and gamble of what’s to come.

Kaylie Kaitschuck (b. 1995, Dearborn, Michigan) received her BFA in Textile Design from The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, and her MFA in Fiber from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield, Michigan. She uses machine embroidery to draw with yarn and create fantastical, yet overwhelming landscapes that drift through reality and fantasy. She has exhibited at GAA Gallery (Provincetown, MA); Playground Detroit (Detroit, MI); and Baby Blue Gallery (Chicago, IL). She is a recipient of The Red Bull House of Arts Microgrant, The Robert C. Larson Art, Design, and Architecture Venture Award, and is published in the upcoming New American Paintings MFA edition. She lives and works in Hamtramck, Michigan.
