Aof Smith ‘Heritage’ Solo Exhibition
Apr 07, 2023 at 12:00am ~ Apr 28, 2023 at 11:59pm
Megumi Ogita Gallery is pleased to present Aof Smith’s solo exhibition, ‘HERITAGE’. Smith is an up-and-coming artist based in Bangkok, who is known for his unique interpretation of American pop surrealism and lowbrow art. His paintings portray playful animals, robots, and monsters in computer-graphic-like forms with influences from cartoons and animation.
Aof Smith has extensively exhibited in group showings in Thailand, the US, China, and Singapore since completing his Master of Fine Arts. The artist has now come to Tokyo to debut his first solo exhibition in Japan.
Smith’s work, which is characterized by its vibrant colors and stimulating visuals, contains underlying messages that are just as compelling. His artwork touches on sensitive issues such as selective breeding that leads to animal suffering as well as the conflict between conscience and guilt in modern society. Furthermore, he sheds light on the harsh realities of everyday life, often overlooked due to our obsession with fantasy. Through his art, Smith creates a parallel world where creatures take action against these issues, depicted with a blend of humor, sorrow, and patience.
In this exhibition, 14 paintings will be on display. Each of these pieces, exploring a range of influences from cave murals to 3D computer graphics, is guaranteed to enthrall viewers, leaving them to reflect on the relationship between Smith’s fantastical worlds and our own. Don’t miss a chance to experience his captivating and mind-bending artwork this April.
