Brazil’s Bicentennial Concert

On September 7, 2022, Brazil commemorates the 200th anniversary of its Independence. To celebrate this milestone, the Villa-Lobos Association of Japan will hold the “Bicentennial Concert” on September 6 at 7:30 pm at the Meguro Persimmon Hall in Tokyo.
The “Bicentennial Concert” is a worldwide project that will take place in the cities of Tokyo, Berlin, London and New York. In Tokyo, an orchestra gathered especially for this celebration will bring together seventy professional Japanese musicians under the leadership of Maestro Yusuke Kimoto, president of the Villa-Lobos Association of Japan. The concert program is composed exclusively of Brazilian composers and seeks to trace the course of classical music in Brazil over the past two hundred years. The program includes the following works, the last of which is to be premiered in Japan:
“O Guarani”, by Carlos Gomes;
“Batuque”, by Alberto Nepomuceno;
“Brazilian Bachianas”, by Heitor Villa-Lobos;
“Brazilian Bachianas”, by Heitor Villa-Lobos;
“Reisado do Pastoreio”, by Oscar Lorenzo Fernández; and
“Frevo”, by Cláudio Santoro.
