Theater Production of “Soul of Odyssey”
Feb 22, 2025 at 6:00pm ~ Feb 28, 2025 at 6:00pm
The production, Soul of Odyssey: a Rebirth features a multicultural Malaysian cast, with each performer speaking in their own language. This project is a collaboration with Japanese theatre practitioners from the Hiroshi Koike Bridge Project. The production uses the classical text of The Odyssey by Homer to reimagine and devise the hero’s journey and the hero’s rise from the ashes of war and chaos. The story invites audiences to question how human beings react to forces beyond man’s control.
Beyond the diverse languages spoken by the performers, the production weaves in other Malaysian elements–like traditional martial arts, dances, movement, music and costume–wrapped together with an aesthetic vision to create a production that harmonizes the spaces with these different forms and cultural expressions.
