Metropolis is seeking skilled freelance writers with expertise in finance, economics, and startups to join our freelance team to create content for our clients and potentially in-house.

Metropolis has been a trusted source of information about Japan for over 30 years, catering to both local and international communities. As part of our expansion, we are looking for seasoned writers to create insightful, high-quality content focused on finance, economics, and Tokyo’s dynamic startup ecosystem.

Scope:

• Write in-depth articles related to finance, economics, and startups, including interviews and event coverage for our clients and in-house.
• Conduct thorough research and fact-checking to provide accurate and authoritative content.
• Collaborate with editors to refine content and align with publication standards.
• Host interviews with key figures for article content in Japanese and English.
• Meet publishing deadlines for one-off or recurring assignments, depending on the scope of each project.

Ideal Candidates Will:

• Have a strong journalistic background in finance, economics, or related fields.
• Be fluent in written English with a professional tone suitable for an informed audience.
• Have experience writing for established media platforms, particularly in finance, business, or economics-related publications.
• Be comfortable conducting interviews with industry professionals and thought leaders.
• Have a portfolio of previously published articles showcasing expertise in finance or economics.
• Reside in Tokyo or have the ability to cover stories and attend events in person.
• Possess confident fluency in the Japanese language (required).
• Demonstrate a commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering polished, professional work.
• Be familiar with or willing to learn AP Style.
