Surprisingly entertaining zombie thriller

“Oh dear,” I said when I read the IMDb blurb on this cheapie revenge thriller. “A deaf girl is brutalized by a murderous gang who are then hunted by her when the bloodthirsty spirit of an Apache warrior inhabits her lifeless body.” But as it progressed, I started thinking it didn’t suck, and then surprised myself by being entertained, in a grindhouse kind of way.

It’s cheesy, but it’s good cheesy, know what I mean? It holds together. There’s these little touches, see. Like the fact that despite being possessed, her body’s still decomposing, and she has only so much time to get to all that fun and imaginative vengeance. So, resourceful zombie that she is, she patches herself up with duct tape! How can you dislike a movie like this?

I reveled in the appropriately terrible acting and the predictable characters, and I flat out guffawed when the chain saw came out. Genre aside, director Michael S. Ojeda shows he can do a lot with a tiny budget. Not for everyone, but I’ve sat through far worse. Amanda Adrienne’s the girl. Best seen with friends and tequila shots. Japanese title: Savage Killer.
