While not specifically a horror fan, I like a good scary movie, and appreciate those that use atmosphere and suspense to get the job done instead of “boo” moments, ultraviolence and copious gore. The eccentricities of the tightly knit Parker clan are attributed to their religious fundamentalism and accepted. But heavy rains and floods cause the death of the mother, and the family’s less-acceptable, diet-based secrets begin to emerge. Jim Mickle’s polished shocker is lurid but never campy, well acted (by Bill Sage, Ambyr Childers, Julia Garner and Michael Parks) elegantly shot and cleverly assembled. (105 min)
