Roppongi’s Mori Art Museum opened with a splash a decade ago, shaking up Tokyo’s staid art scene with ambitious, conceptual shows rather than surveys of periods or artistic movements. The anniversary exhibition doesn’t disappoint, going for the pop jugular with its Beatles reference and linking art and pop culture in the subtitle “From Chagall to Kusama and Hatsune Miku.” The show will look at love in its myriad forms—romantic, familial, universal and internet-enabled—through works by 200 artists including Frida Kahlo, Damien Hirst, Nobuyoshi Araki, David Hockney and Salvador Dalí.
