The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston houses numerous artworks of interest to the Japanese—among them one of the world’s finest collections of ukiyo-e woodblock prints. This show, however, represents a kind of “best of” from its European painting collection. Among the 80 masterpieces on view are 17th-century El Grecos and Rembrandts, 19th-century Millets, and a treasure trove of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist pieces. The latter include works by Monet, Degas, Renoir and Van Gogh, who himself was greatly influenced by ukiyo-e.
