About The Artist

Mike is a British filmmaker and photographer, currently based in Barcelona.

Curiosity often gets the better of Mike. A creative himself, he’s always eager to explore new artistic mediums. Through his camera, he’s able to do just that. Visiting artists’ studios and capturing their diversity, process, and talent became a true source of inspiration — and sparked the early idea for what would become CASUAL.

His biggest project to date, CASUAL is Mike’s personal expression and tribute to artistic communities around the world. A traveler at heart, he feels most at home when he’s away. No matter which country he was in, he found comfort in this shared creative energy — a constant source of inspiration, curiosity, and kindness.

About The Exhibition

This fourth edition of the CASUAL series showcases 49 Tokyo-based artists across diverse mediums — from painters and photographers to designers, illustrators, and sculptors. Primarily a photographic experience, the exhibition documents each artist within their studio, exploring their process, lifestyle, inspirations, and ethos.

Launched by Chainey as a personal project, CASUAL began in Sydney in 2017 and has since captured the creative communities of London, São Paulo, Barcelona, and now Tokyo. Each edition seeks to uncover how local influences — from culture and climate to community.
