“CORAL SONIC RESILIENCE” by Marco Barotti
Feb 13, 2026 at 12:00pm ~ Feb 15, 2026 at 7:00pm
Berlin-based media artist Marco Barotti presents “CORAL SONIC RESILIENCE,” a solo exhibition held at CONTRAST as part of the DIG SHIBUYA 2026 festival. This ongoing project explores the intersection of art and technology by investigating how sound can support struggling coral reef ecosystems. Inspired by research that healthy reefs emit soundscapes to attract marine life, Barotti uses recordings from thriving reefs in the Maldives and Jamaica, played through solar-powered underwater speakers, to encourage the return of biodiversity to bleached areas.
At the gallery, the project is showcased as a video work that combines underwater footage, animation, and AI-generated imagery. A special large-scale presentation will also take place as part of “Shibuya Crossing Night Art,” where the work will be screened across four massive LED screens at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. This exhibition invites a deep reflection on the future of our oceans and the potential for technological interventions to aid environmental recovery.
