Mt. Takao Setsubun
Feb 03, 2025 at 1:00pm ~ Feb 03, 2025 at 5:00pm
Celebrated in temples throughout Japan on February 3rd, this festival serves to expel the misfortunes of the past year and ward off evil spirits from the year ahead. At Yakuo-in Temple, beans are scattered into the crowd by individuals whose zodiac signs align with the current year. The event also features notable personalities such as singers, sumo wrestlers, and actors. Attendees eagerly compete to catch the beans, as consuming them is thought to protect against illness and bad luck for the year. Before the bean-throwing begins, a goma fire ritual is conducted to purify those participating in the ceremony.
