Pace Gallery | Marina Perez Simão & Tomie Ohtake Exhibition

Nov 04, 2025 at 11:00am ~ Feb 11, 2026 at 7:00pm

Pace Gallery Tokyo presents a dual exhibition featuring new works by Marina Perez Simão and a focused survey of Tomie Ohtake, the late Japanese-Brazilian pioneer of modern abstraction. Installed across two floors of Pace’s Azabudai Hills space, the shows create a visual conversation between two artists united by heritage and their poetic approaches to color, form, and emotion.

For her Japan debut, Brazilian artist Marina Perez Simão unveils a new series of semi-abstract paintings inspired by landscape and memory. Using rich indigos, reds, and pinks—an homage to Japan’s indigo tradition—Simão blends gesture and rhythm to explore the boundaries between interior and exterior worlds.

The companion exhibition highlights Ohtake’s experimentation across painting and sculpture between 1963 and 2013. Her elegant compositions—marked by bold geometry, organic forms, and playful balance. These works define her lifelong engagement with abstraction.

Presented during Art Week Tokyo 2025 (Nov 5–9), these exhibitions trace a shared legacy between two generations of artists who reimagine landscape and feeling through color and form.
