Tadaka Kenzo: Chasing Dreams

Jul 06, 2024 at 11:00am ~ Sep 16, 2024 at 7:00pm

The Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery is holding an exhibition to commemorate Tadaka Kenzo’s garments to reveal how his designs changed over the years. Takada focused on liberating the human form of clothing and went on to design loose, dart-free garments featuring straight-cut kimono sleeves, he was referred to as “the magician of colors” for the unique way he combined colors and patterns, resulting in numerous works that encapsulated his Japanese sensibility. Takada’s designs suggest a new style of clothing that was not dictated by the existing Eurocentric cultural tradition. This exhibition is the first large-scale solo exhibition since Takada Kenzo’s tragic death in 2020, starting Saturday 6 July ‒ Monday, 16 September 2024. Give this exhibition a visit if you’d like to view his paintings which he first began creating as a young child, the reference materials that inspired his ideas, as well as his fashion design sketches, perfect for a dose of creative inspiration.
