A mesmerizing contemporary dance debut by Sharon Eyal in Japan

The critically acclaimed German contemporary dance company TanzMainz makes its highly anticipated Japan debut with PROMISE, an electrifying collaboration with visionary choreographer Sharon Eyal.

Hailing from Staatstheater Mainz, TanzMainz is renowned for its cutting-edge repertoire and collaborations with globally celebrated choreographers. Under Eyal’s direction, PROMISE is a hypnotic fusion of movement, energy and emotion, pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance.

Eyal, whose choreography captivated Christian Dior’s creative director, leading to her direction of Dior’s haute couture collections, is known for her raw, primal and deeply expressive style.

A Daring and Hypnotic Performance

Seven dancers move as one, pulsating in darkness. Love, bondage, ecstasy and solitude unfold through intricate footwork and expressive movement. The choreography builds into a hypnotic, frenzied display of human connection set to electronic music. A fusion of precision, strength and beauty—PROMISE is an unmissable experience. This marks the third collaboration between Sharon Eyal and TanzMainz, following the award-winning Soul Chain and Plafona Now.

Special Programs & Workshops

Get a glimpse of TanzMainz’s choreography by watching the PROMISE trailer. Experience movement inspired by the performance in a dance workshop led by Maasa Sakano at the Setagaya Public Theatre Rehearsal Studio.

The workshops will be held on February 27, 2025, from 7pm to 8:30pm for all participants, regardless of experience and on March 1, 2025, from 11am to 12:30am for dancers and performers.

Participation fees are ¥1,500 for the general workshop and ¥2,000 for the dancer/performer session, with a ¥500 discount available for PROMISE ticket holders.
