Welcoming Hokusai’s Great Wave

In July 2024, Japanese banknotes will be redesigned with Hokusai’s the “Great Wave” design. In commemoration of adopting the new banknotes, Sumida Hokusai Museum will be hosting an exhibition titled “The Impact of Hokusai’s Great Wave : Under the Wave off Kanagawa —Tracing Its Origins and Trajectory”.
Here the exhibition will explore the background behind the creation of “Under the Wave off Kanagawa from the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” and the multitude of ways its design has been used.
Embrace the rich history and appreciate the intricacies of Hokusai’s Great Wave banknote from June to August.
