Ying Chi Hsueh Exhibition: Beyond the Light

Ying Chi Hsueh, a Taiwanese photographer, explores the themes of fire, light, and death. Drawing inspiration from the Yanshui Fireworks Festival, a traditional event held every year in Tainan, Taiwan, Hsueh captures the multifaceted essence of fire. In Chinese culture, fire has long carried ambivalent connotations. On one hand, it embodies a sacred force that repels malevolence, while on the other, it possesses a relentless intensity that consumes all in its path.
The works in the exhibition were taken in Taiwan and Japan. The main works are from Taiwan: Nan Yao Gong San Mazu Creek (Changhua), Nan Zhou Ying Wang (Nan Zhou), Liu Ying Daitian Yuan Sending Wang (Liu Ying, Tainan), and Fire Horse (Huangbi Ting Tainan), and from Japan: Fire Dance Festival (Koka City), Torch Festival (Sukagawa City), Fireworks Festival (Kawasaki City), Dosojin Festival (Nozawa Hot Springs).
