Dear Rob Zombie: OK, we get it. We understand your fascination with ’70s splatter flicks. Now please rent several dozen of them, get some beer, and go home and stop bothering us with your repellent, ego-driven remakes. Repetitive brutal killings of trailer trash and copious gore do not a Halloween movie make, and you’ve made your supposedly scary villain into a laughingstock. Furthermore, the main victim of your ham-handed approach is suspense, reducing this already questionable genre to the level of torture porn. And by the way, dark is not the same as atmospheric. Thank you.—Your former fans.
