As this is supposedly based on the true-life experiences of a California priest sent to the Vatican to study with a master exorcist, you’re not going to get any green projectile vomiting or spinning heads. But you’re not going to get much else, either, save for watching Anthony Hopkins trot out his Hannibal Lecter mannerisms one more time. He’s clearly having fun and collecting a paycheck. You, on the other hand, are paying to sit there. The first half creates a low-key, creepy vibe, and it’s refreshing to see a horror flick without the copious gore. But it’s all pretty flimsy, and the ending’s weak.
