Almost 100 years after its debut, Stravinsky’s revolutionary, pagan-inspired The Rite of Spring gets a new choreographic treatment at the hands of “hardcore” contemporary troupe Kakuya Ohashi and Dancers. With a reputation for iconoclastic works that explore psychological and sexual abuse, the company draws on Ohashi’s experience in film and the expressive methods of butoh. Following the completion of its Chain of Clarity trilogy last year, The Rite of Spring will see Ohashi and co. joined on stage by 20 extras as well as Hiko, the drummer for Japanese punk band Gauze.
