If anyone harbored doubts about the quality of Japan’s tango dancers and musicians, the victory of a Japanese couple at the recent world competition in Buenos Aires should put an end to them. Against this background comes El Tango Tokio, directed by violinist and bandmaster Kiyoshi Shiga, who first traveled to Argentina with his Orquesta Tipica Tokio in 1964. Dancing to a program of traditional tango compositions will be two couples, one of which includes Argentine Laura Mangione, a popular figure among local audiences. The event also features the CanbaTango ensemble, a new Buenos Aires group that recently appeared in the documentary El Tango de mi Vida.
