Bauhaus Crowdfunding Campaign

Tokyo’s Oldest Live Rock Bar Launches Campaign for Survival

Jun 26, 2021 at 8:00pm ~ Aug 14, 2021 at 8:00pm

Forced to remain closed since the beginning of the pandemic, Tokyo’s oldest remaining Live Rock Bar – Bauhaus – is launching a crowdfunding campaign to coincide with their 40th Birthday.

From 1981 until February 2020 the resident band served up classic rock and heavy metal every night of the week, being dubbed “The Temple of Rock” by its regulars. Now – in order to stay afloat – the venue needs to move to a new location and continue to cover their overheads while visitor numbers remain low due to the pandemic.

As Toru Kagami – director and drummer of Bauhaus – explains: “After more than one year of closure, we are now reaching the limits of what we can do to survive without exterior help.”

To cover these costs, Bauhaus launched a crowdfunding campaign on Campfire on June 12, 2021 at 8pm. This campaign – available in English and Japanese – is open to everyone willing to help save Tokyo’s oldest live rock bar.

Kagami says: “We can’t let 40 years of history end like this. We hope we can count on the support of friends of rock music and culture from around the world to save our establishment. It’s our mission to keep on rocking, we have to keep these songs alive and accessible, for fans of rock today, and for the next generations.”
