Vick Muniz Solo Exhibition Talk

The Embassy of Brazil in Tokyo and the nca | nichido contemporary are excited to present a talk with Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, on his first Tokyo exhibition ‘Gibi’ and Professor Daisuke Miyatsu, author of the exhibition press release and Director of Mori Art Museum.
Vik Muniz is a Brazilian artist and photographer who is most recognized for his unique recreations of famous art history and pop culture imagery. Muniz aims to expose the hidden truths behind these well-known images through his striking artwork, often made out of unconventional materials like chocolate sauce or diamonds. His pieces have been presented all over the world, from the MOMA in New York to the Dragon Museum in Shanghai. In his newest exhibition, taking place at the Embassy of Brazil in Tokyo from April 14 to June 3, Muniz is applying his unique style to the world of Disney characters.
The talk will include insightful thoughts from the artist, investigating the underlying meanings behind his new artwork. In ‘Gibi’, he has taken inspiration from Disney’s vintage comics and cartoons, gathered from different countries, and recreated scenes from the iconic characters’ adventures.
