Join Tokyo River Friends this summer for a series of volunteer clean-up events along the Arakawa and Edogawa rivers. These events are a fun, social, and impactful way to care for Tokyo’s waterways while connecting with fellow eco-conscious residents and visitors.

Throughout August and into early September, events will take place at Funabori, Shinkoiwa, and Myoden, with each session running from 14:30–18:30. Volunteers will meet outside the only ticket gate at each designated station and walk together to the river to collect litter for 3.5–4 hours, including breaks.

Event Details:

Arakawa River Clean Up

Station: Shinkoiwa Station, Sobu line

Dates: Aug. 3 (Sun.), Aug. 9 (Sat.) & Sep. 7 (Sun.)

Time: 14:30-18:30

Location: We will clean the backside of the island under the C2 highway (utilizing its shade). Our location will be between the Sobu Line train bridge and Keiyo Line Highway (just past the boat races)

Details: We will meet outside the only ticket gate of Shinkoiwa Station and go to the river and pick up trash along the river banks for 3.5 to 4 hours with a break in the middle.

Edogawa River Clean Up (Myoden)

Date: Aug. 23 (Sat.)

Time: 14:30-18:30

Station: Myoden (Tozai Line)

Details: We will meet outside the only ticket gate of Myoden station go to the river and pick up trash on the Barakinakayama side for about 3.5 to 4 hours with a break in the middle. If you come late, it will be about a 25-min. walk to our location behind the Clean Spa.

With regard to bad weather, generally these events will not be cancelled in the case of rain (unless a lot of rain), but please check our website for updates if any doubt on a rain day.
