Design Festa Tokyo returns to Tokyo Big Sight as one of the city’s largest independent art events. First launched in 1994, it continues to offer an open platform for creators of all backgrounds. There is no selection process, which gives the event its wide range of styles and ideas.

More than 10,000 artists participate across the two-day event. Booths feature illustration, painting, photography and handmade crafts. Many artists sell work directly, making it easy to pick up prints or original pieces. Conversations with creators are part of the experience, and browsing feels informal.

Live performances run throughout the venue. These include music, dance and experimental acts on smaller stages. Some areas also host live painting, where artists complete work during the event. The mix of visual art and performance keeps the layout varied.

Food stalls are spread across the venue, offering international street food and quick meals. Lines grow during peak lunch hours, so visiting earlier helps avoid long waits.

Mornings are the best time to explore. The space feels more open, and booths are easier to access. By early afternoon, crowds increase, especially around popular areas. Comfortable shoes are essential, as most visitors spend several hours walking.

Tickets are available as one-day or two-day passes. Buying in advance helps avoid queues at the entrance, especially on weekends.
