Meta Bath – A Digital View of Tokyo-Style Bathhouses
Nov 12, 2024 at 12:00am ~ Nov 26, 2024 at 12:00am
Meta Bath offers a 3D online exhibition on Tokyo Museum Collection (ToMuCo) until November 26, 2024. This exhibit brings Tokyo’s historic bathhouses to life, allowing exploration from anywhere worldwide. Step into the intricate beauty of Kodakara-yu, a Tokyo-style bathhouse, in a fully interactive 3D model. You’ll see every detail, from traditional tiled roofs to nostalgic carvings.
Created through the TOKYO Smart Culture Project, this exhibit preserves Kodakara-yu with advanced laser scanning and photogrammetry. The exhibit also includes a special comparison with Daikoku-yu, another Tokyo bathhouse built in 1929. Although Daikoku-yu was demolished in 2021, you can now view it side by side with Kodakara-yu.
This side-by-side comparison transports you through time to appreciate Tokyo bathhouse culture. Dive into artifacts like vintage hair dryers and coin-operated massage chairs in high-resolution 3D. For even more interactivity, use your smartphone or tablet to place an AR model of Kodakara-yu in your space.
Don’t miss this unique chance to experience Tokyo’s bathhouse architecture and culture online.
